text app bubbles

I have a galaxy S23 ultra and had a note 20.  On the note 20 I had it setup to put a bubble on the home screen whenever a text message came in. I've made the same settings on the S23 ultra.

However, the bubble doesn't show on the home screen, just the number symbol on the message icon. Anyone now if this is a bug or what. Also does it work with google messenger as I'm considering switching. TIA.

Have you disable animations with developer options?

No. However, I got it working again by turning it off and on again.
