Wondering if anyone has been able to get texts to read aloud automatically through their car's Bluetooth? As it is now, I get a notification sound and my 2024 vehicle display will show a notification symbol. But I have to tell Assistant to "Read My Texts" by either using the button on the steering wheel or saying "Hey Google". I would like to get the text to read aloud on the car system automatically.
I am testing an app "Free Notification Reader" from the Play Store but would like to know if anyone has any hints or helpful suggestions.

Hello PoorGuy, Thanks for being an active member of the Community! There are many ways to do this. One of the most reliable and efficient ways is to use Bixby Routines.
When using this you can create a routine that turns on the read-aloud feature when you're in a car-related context.

  1. Open the Bixby Routines app.
  2. Tap the + button to create a new routine.
  3. Choose a trigger, such as being connected to your car's Bluetooth.
  4. Under the "Then" section, select Apps.
  5. Add the Google Messages app. (or whichever app you use for messaging)
  6. Tap Actions and select Turn on notifications.
  7. Save your routine.

Please let us know if this helps!

I don't know if I'm looking in the wrong place but there is no Bixby Routines, Only Modes and Routines. Which I've explored already. And while you can build a routine based on the Bluetooth connection, there seems to be an issue where the routine directs you to a different device (phone) because you're already connected to the Bluetooth. It seems that to use this routine, you must select a different device. Otherwise you get a message that you're already connected to the initial device.

Routines are Bixby routines. In this routine, you would select your car as the BT device trigger and notifications from app (the if). Then you would choose the action for the then as read notifications aloud.

You can also use Android Auto.

I get what you're saying but will it read aloud on the phone or through the Bluetooth in the vehicle? In the past when I've tried the routine I would get an error message about selecting a different device. What I am looking for " is a routine that will automatically read the notification aloud through the vehicle head unit"
Also I already use Android Auto but I have to initiate the conversation. It does not read notifications aloud without prompting it verbally or by pressing the steering wheel button.

I don't see why it shouldn't, however, you can set up separate app sound to have either Bixby or Messages sound through the BT device. Not sure which, as I do not use Bixby. Pretty sure it would be Bixby, though. Is it really a bad thing to have to activate your texts being read aloud through Android Auto? You can add Android Auto connected as the third trigger.

It's not so terrible to have to prompt the reading aloud. But any distraction from driving can be dangerous so I would like the process to be more automatic. It's not a big deal to hit the button to get Android Auto/the conversation started but I strongly believe in minimizing distractions.
I know you probably would say then to ignore the notification but there are times when these notifications need response almost immediately and pulling over is not an option.
