This is the most braindead update I have ever experienced.  

It's almost like someone was trying to justify their position and couldn't think of anything.

If you're going to copy apple with every move, we myswell ditch Samsung all together.

I did not have to create a fix for anything, as it was never an issue for me. If it's an issue for you there are many ways to mute your phone quickly. If you want to do it the way you are used to, yes, you have to create a routine to do so. It takes less than 5 minutes to create the routine and you never have to think about it ever again. The result is the same as the original action, regardless of whether you think they should not have made the change in the first place. The whole point, as you say, is to get the action that you want back. Or is the whole point for you to complain about something easily fixable because you don't agree with the decision, or the fact that you have to do something to make it work as you want?

The fix takes 3 seconds of holding physical buttons, instead of simply pushing a button once.  It would be very easy for them to just toggle this as an option in settings and make everyone happy.

Where do you get holding a button for 3 seconds? The fix is a routine to make the button action EXACTLY the same as it was formerly - hold the volume down button until the phone mutes - however long that takes. it only requires that you first download the good lock module, routines + and add the button action to your routine.

There are two work arounds, the second is programming volume up + down to be a macro for mute all when holding for 3 seconds. 

Overall, I agree with your longer response from earlier though.

Why would you program the macro, when the routine is a simpler matter and keeps the action exactly the same as it was?  Just FYI, if you are responding to a specific post, hit the reply button under *that* specific post so that the intended recipient is notified.

Because I did this day 1 and am used to it.  

 

Just pointing out the problem becUse I'm consistently talking to customers about it in my job.  

 

The general public does not like this, and many can't understand routines.  

But yes, the routine is the fix, but a fix for a problem that Samsung created themselves ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿ˜‚

Samsung did not create a problem. Users decided it was a crisis an order of magnitude greater than it is. There are at least 10 way to easily mute one's phone. Their way of thinking may have been like mine and many others - vibrate is virtually the same as mute, especially if you adjust the vibration intensity, and the option still exists to perform the action through routines - so they actually took nothing away.

Are you the representative for "the general public"? If not, you can't speak for them. Most who have a Samsung phone know about modes and routines except, perhaps, someone with their very first Samsung. Believe it or not, some people actually buy (or stay with) Samsung *because* of the modes & routines features - something not available on other brands. It's the best way to customize your device the way you want it

I'm literally speaking for over 30 different people that I've had to speak with about this at work ๐Ÿ˜‚.  I install internet and am regularly asked to troubleshoot customer's phones while I'm there.

The general public is billions of people - millions of Samsung users, you may speak for 30, but not everyone.  

 

I do not work for Samsung in any capacity, nor get paid by them.  I just recognize reality and am not inclined to make a mountain out of a molehill when easy solutions exist. I'm also a fully functional adult who can adapt to change.

Doesn't change the fact that you're having to implement a routine to cover their poor design choice.  

A choice that was only pushed through to save them money.  The people who silence their phone on accident and can't figure out how to get it back are the exact demographic who have to call to get it fixed.  

There is 0 other reasoning to implement this.
