Hi.

I've recently purchased a ProtoArc XK01 TP Bluetooth keyboard to pair with my S23 Ultra.

While the trackpad works perfectly, keys have to be held down for a second for them to be registered. This makes fast typing impossible.

A second, older, Bluetooth keyboard I had lying around exhibits the same behaviour.

When connected to my PC, my daughter's S25 Ultra, and my wife's S24 Ultra, the ProtoArc works as expected, which rules out the keyboard as the culprit.

ProtoArc support have been fantastic, but none of their troubleshooting has worked (see below).

Does anyone here know what could be going on?

ProtoArc troubleshooting:

Hello,
Thank you very much for contacting us and for providing such a detailed description of the issue you encountered with the XK01 TP keyboard. We completely understand how frustrating it can be when typing is delayed and not responsive.
--Based on your description, the keyboard works normally when connected to a computer and the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but experiences delays only on the Galaxy S22 Ultra—this usually indicates a compatibility or software setting issue with the specific phone (S22 Ultra), rather than a hardware fault of the keyboard itself.
To help resolve this issue, we kindly ask you to try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Remove and re-pair the Bluetooth connection
--Go to Settings > Bluetooth on the S22 Ultra.
--Locate the paired “XK01 TP,” tap the settings icon next to it, and choose Unpair or Forget.
--Turn the keyboard off and back on to enter pairing mode (blue light flashing).
--Search again on the phone’s Bluetooth list and re-pair “XK01 TP.”
This step clears any corrupted connection cache and is often the most effective solution.
2. Check system and firmware updates
--Phone system update: Make sure your S22 Ultra is updated to the latest version via Settings > Software update > Download and install.
3. Adjust Bluetooth codec settings
--Sometimes, Bluetooth audio codec settings optimised for sound quality or battery saving can impact the responsiveness of input devices.
--Go to Settings > About phone > Software information.
--Tap Build number several times until “Developer mode enabled” appears.
--Return to Settings and open Developer options.
--Scroll down to Bluetooth Audio Codec (or a similar option).
--Try switching from “AAC” to “SBC” (a more widely compatible codec), then test the keyboard again.
4. Disable power saving restrictions
--Ensure that Power saving mode or Ultra power saving mode is disabled while using the keyboard.
--Go to Settings > Battery and check if there are Bluetooth optimisation settings; please disable them temporarily.
5. Eliminate possible signal interference
Try using the keyboard away from Wi-Fi routers, microwave ovens, or USB 3.0 devices that may interfere with the 2.4GHz frequency band.
If the issue still persists:
Since the keyboard functions well on other devices, the problem may lie specifically with the S22 Ultra’s Bluetooth driver or power management settings. We also recommend:
--Checking Samsung’s official community or support page to see if other S22 Ultra users have reported similar issues with external keyboards.
--If possible, test the keyboard with another Galaxy S22 Ultra to determine whether the issue is device-specific.
We are committed to improving product compatibility, and your feedback is very valuable to us. We will forward your case to our technical team so that it can be considered in future firmware or driver optimizations.
Thank you again for your patience and support. Please try the above steps, and if the issue still remains—or if you have any further questions—feel free to reply to this email.
We wish you a pleasant day!
Sincerely,
Fay

@Hippoponderous Since it works great with other Samsung models and other devices, I would suspect some 3rd party software on your phone causing the issue.

Thanks, LongHiker.

I hadn't considered 3rd party apps.

After reviewing my installed apps, I've no idea which could be the culprit. I guess I need to start going through them one at a time...😒

Look for the apps that are not on the other devices, and start with the last ones installed or the least important. Have you tried using the keyboard in safe mode?

Thanks, @realaud

I've removed any non-essential apps, and unpaired any Bluetooth devices that aren't being used, but it's made no difference.

At the end of the day, it is a relatively minor inconvenience. I can use the keyboard with other devices around the home for the time being. It might also be the catalyst that makes me upgrade my phone. 😉
