On One UI 7, the highest number of notifications that it'll put in the top notification bar is 3. I used to have it set ti unlimited, but I can't find that option anymore.
Was it removed? If it was removed, why? Why remove an option, instead of just leaving it there for us? Quit thinking you know how your consumers want to use their phone better than they do, Samsung!

Certain things in the status area are ubiquitous and don't count toward the three, right? E.g. time, battery, WiFi signal, etc. I have three other such statuses (day of week, day of month, and current outside temperature) that IMHO should be built-in and not count against any status icon limit. A snoozed alarm also counts against the limit, and it shouldn't.

The indicator icons are on the right, and do not count toward notifications.  The notification indicators are on the left.  However, I did notice that if you have something like Link to Windows connected, that *does* count as a notification, so now you are down to two icons and a dot available.  The blank space is apparently reserved for the Now Bar/Now Brief, even if you have them turned off.  They should at least allow the option to reclaim the space if one does not have the Now apps on.

I have all the system icons on the right status bar - or I did until this afternoon when I got the update, now half of them are gone.  Those I wanted there.  Does it annoy me that they are gone? Yes. But I'm an adult, I can deal with it. I only allowed three notification icons in the setting, because the sight of all those notifications makes me nuts (just as app badges do).  If I see a notification icon, I know I have a notification - I get most of them on my watch anyway, so I check and swipe them away.  I use Notistar which keeps  the notification history, so if I swiped something away that I wanted to act on later, I can revisit it.  Having 97 notification icons on the status bar tells me absolutely nothing except that I got notifications from particular apps.  Even so.  Let's say the phone allows for 15 icons before you get the etcetera dot, what happens if your most important notification was number 17? You still don't see it until you pull down the screen.  Even if you keep your phone unlocked on the stand, your screen still times out and goes to the lock screen (more appropriately known as the privacy screen), or the black screen/AOD (which would cause you to have to interact with your phone even if you had unlimited notification icons allowed) so showing the notification cards on the lock screen will show you all your notifications. You can choose to show the cards and hide the contents which will give you the notification with the app icon and the sender, if a text notification.  I do appreciate the fact that I can customize things and options are good to have.  I do not care whether or not people want the options - they should have them.  I just don't think it's worth the temper tantrums people are having about it.  There are options out there to bring back a reasonable facsimile of those options, but people apparently also object to third party solutions because, "why should I have to do that" just because Samsung used to have the feature and does not have it now.  If it's important to those "power users", then any solution that gives them what they want is a solution.

"Those I wanted there. Does it annoy me that they are gone? Yes"

So you customized it (those aren't on the left by default, right?) and put those system icons on the left? Glad Samsung gave you a way to do that. But why do you need those system icons in the status bar at all? You can just swipe down and see the same information, it only takes a second, right? That's less cluttered, right? Do you need the time in your status bar? Did you remove that? You could just look at a clock on your wall. You could just look at the time on your watch. You could just look at the time on a computer, etc.

Notification icons seem to bother you. That's fine, but they don't bother everyone (especially power users), and many people prefer the context of a notification at a glance in the status bar rather than swiping down when they are viewing their homescreen.

As for your suggestions about lock screens and notification cards, there's the same limit, right? You realize not everyone uses a lock screen for all use cases and scenarios, right? It's not obviously advised to not have one more most situations, but there could be cases where a device doesn't have important data on it and someone doesn't want it to go to a lock screen. I have a home Android tablet in my kitchen where I don't want it to go to a lockscreen at all. Also one in my shower. You realize screen time outs can also be set to whatever you want or removed with 3 party software too, right? You can also set the option "Stay awake" in developer options to have it stay awake while charging.

Why not just tell others (if you are just trying to be helpful like you previously stated) that they can provide feedback through the Samsung Members app and maybe a dev will look if it's possible to incorporate into Good Lock as a customization option in the future? Or you could suggest 3rd part solutions if you know of a good one that doesn't have drawbacks. Instead you're coming off as "you're doing it wrong" or telling everyone how you prefer it rather than trying to be helpful. Or just telling people how you do it with your watch. You realize not everyone has a smartwatch, and maybe some people don't want to constantly look at that instead either.

That's the point, everyone is different, and if Samsung could provide a customization option, it could make everyone happy. Why would making everyone happy bother you? Maybe you're just trolling everyone and this is what you enjoy doing in your free time as a hobby, IDK.

Also, I'm just letting you know regarding "I just don't think it's worth the temper tantrums people are having about it" that you are just inflaming the so called "temper tantrums". You aren't going to make them go away with what you are telling people that you personally feel like notification icons are clutter and that they should just feel the same way as you in however they use their phone. Clearly a lot of people disagree with you.

I don't like having the time or the system icons on the left side. I like them on the right. Do I care that you like them on the left? Absolutely not, why would I care about that? You know what is great though, you can move them to where you want, and I can move them to where I want. That is the reason a lot of power users are drawn to Android, and that is customization. Especially the Good Lock suite of apps that provide an easy way to customize things without having to root your phone.

That's what is being requested here, so once again, to anyone who stumbles across this thread, your best path to possibly getting more notification icons back in your status bar is to provide feedback to Samsung. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692 Even though we have learned that this is being implemented in the Google Android AOSP level and not by Samsung, Samsung may be able to offer a customization (possibly in Good Lock, but it could happen in their skin of Android), just like they do with many other things. The more people that provide that feedback, possibly the greater chances of Samsung developing a customization if they can.

As a workaround select 'sort notifications by priority' which at least shows the latest notifications first instead of hiding them.

It's so annoy8ng they got rid of this option!! It's got so much room in the inner screen when fold is opened. I want it back! 3 is nothing.

Please change it back so I can have more than 3 notifications icons. It's very frustrating and a downgrade. It's like Samsung is trying to copy Apple. If we wanted apple, we would have bought a iPhone

This is really an unacceptable change. Not only can you not change the number of icons you see, you can't pick certain apps to always be show, like a text message or missed call, meaning numerous times now I didn't respond to an important text til many hours later.
This needs to be patched today.

As for your sticky notifications, you can download Good Lock's NotiStar and set it to "set app unable to clear notifications" which will leave notifications from any app you specify (phone, messages, etc.) in the notification panel after using the "clear" button to clean up the other notifications.  You will still be able to swipe away any notification you have already taken care of.  Using Notistar has the added advantage of keeping your notification history, so if you do end up swiping/clearing away an important notification, you will still be able to access it.
