I recently upgraded from Note 20 Ultra 5G to an S23 Ultra 5G. Using Samsung Switch, ALL my data and apps transfered smoothly EXCEPT for one small glitch.
On my NOTE 2020, I have a collection in a big widget of frequently contacted friends & family. Some are the CONTACT widget, some are the CONTACT DIRECT CALL widget, others are the DIRECT TEXT widget.
I was excited to see that ALL those co tactics did transfer to the S23 and were in the same order as my Note 20...until I actually tried to use one. I tapped the photo for that contact, but an entirely different person's info appeared. And there were several that had happened to. Most of the others were fine.

So I completely deleted those for our five widgets and went to the Samsung widgets; however there is no longer a widget for just a CONTACT, nor is there one for CONTACT (DIRECT TEXT). The only contact widget offered is CONTACT (DIRECT DIAL). I don't call nearly as often as I text, or maybe text a photo or some type of attachment.
Are those two additional widgets available anywhere?

There are several multi contact direct dial widgets and a single contact direct dial widget.  Open the widgets selector and scroll to contacts.  Choose one.  They no longer have the direct text widget, however, you can enable edge panels and add the contact edge panel.  When you add your selected contacts to the side panel, tapping the contact gives you the option to text or call.  The edge panel control is located in settings/display.  Scroll to edge panels and turn it on.  Tap on the tile and choose how visible you want the handle to be, the position, color and transparency. Choose your panel(s).  The contacts panel is actually called "people".  You may find a few other edge panels of interest to you.  The edge panels are very useful for decluttering your home screen of widgets (unless you *need* your widgets to be visible at all times).  They slide off the screen and out when you need them.

This was not really an acceptable solution for me.   I tried the edge panels on an earlier Note when they first came out; but I didn't care for them as they pop out at times when I have NOT selected them.  Instead I created a box in that bottom line, the space that's always available on every "page" and then I selected the CONTACT WIDGET of my choice BACK THEN; selected the contact, and dropped each one into that box.  I have some contacts that still use ONLY a landline, so they got the widget for DIRECT CALL; I have other contacts to whom I regularly send text messages and/or attachments , so they got the WIDGET for the whole contact -- NOT just DIRECT CALL.  And I was able to drop them all in a box -- including my co-workers, friends, and family members.  It took two "screens" within that box.  BUT they were all handy at the touch of a button.  That box transferred during the Samsung Switch transfer from my NOTE 20 ULTRA to my GALAXY S23 ULTRA.  But oddly enough, only SOME of the CALL AND/OR TEXT contacts made it through.  And not all of the DIRECT CALL CONTACTS made it through -- but at least I could FIX THEM!

To eliminate the DIRECT TEXT WIDGET is a colossal error on Samsung's part.  What do you do if you need to send someone an attachment -- go back to your contacts list and search??  No, what I described above is much easier and simpler.   One can have AS MANY CONTACTS AS YOU WANT, right at your fingertips, set up for either TEXT OR TALK.  They aren't sliding in and out of the edge panels with other things you might have set up on edge panels.  And IF Samsung is going to eliminate a contact widget, WHY ELIMINATE THE ONE WITH OPTIONS?  That doesn't make sense AT ALL.

If your edge panel was popping out when you didn't pull it, you placed the handle in the wrong place, or made it too wide, so any slide in the area of the handle will pull it out.  I made handle small and placed it in a spot where I am not likely to swipe it open by accident.  More people direct call than direct text, so that may be why they eliminated it.  You can no longer place widgets on the favorites bar, or put them in folders, but you can stack them, so all you have to do is swipe a widget to get to the person you want.  The only way to get a shortcut to text a contact is to use the people edge panel. Sometimes we have to adapt to new things.  Do you have hundreds of chats going that you can't just open your message app and tap on a conversation to text?
