Navigation Bar used to be able to disappear and bring it back up, bring that feature back!

Prior to the update that did more harm than good, the navigation bar used to disappear after a few seconds, allowing me to access things along the bottom of app screens. Tapping the screen would bring the bar back up so I could navigate the phone. Post update, the bar doesn't disappear, and I cannot fully use some apps (app's menu is at the bottom of the screen, visible under the navigation bar, but untouchable). 

Can I change that back (no, I don't want swipe gestures. I want buttons on a bar that will disappear until needed again) or is this yet ANOTHER way Samsung us over with a garbage update?

I am finding more and not apps that this happens with. 😡 I shouldn't have to add apps or create routines to change gestures just to use my phone.

I'm not having any issue with the navigation bar, nor have I had any either before or after the update.  It disappears or blends in when it's supposed to and appears when it is supposed to. Except for a handful of comments on this post from others, it appears to be a singular problem with your device and those of the others.  All of you should put in an error report if you have tried the basic recommended troubleshooting and it has not solved the issue.

I did put in a report. When I first discovered the issue. No one from Samsung ever acknowledged or replied

If it were me, I'd keep sending reports until I got a response. You can add to the report already submitted - you can add photos as attachments.  Usually you get an immediate auto response that they received your report and then sometimes it can take weeks before they get back to you.  I just always figured the longer it took, they were likely working on the issue.  Sometimes the log didn't completely upload, in which case, they usually ask you to resubmit it.  In one instance, I got a response six months later, after I'd long given up on getting one.

 

Have you done a factory reset?  Doing a reset and then restoring your backup is unlikely to replicate the problem, as the OS/UI is never stored with the backup, only your apps and settings.  You will start with a fresh operating system, unencumbered by leftover bits and pieces of the old system, which may be causing your issue.

Has anything been figured out about this? Its been messing with my work and I really don't want to use the gestures

If you download Good Lock's NavStar module and turn it on, you can add a control to the left side of the navigation bar to show or hide the bar.  You can keep the navigation bar showing until it's in your way, then double tap the icon and the bar hides.  You can scroll up from the bottom of the screen to show the navigation bar when you need it.

Same here. Then this evening without me changing anything. Swipe gestures activated and no buttons at all! Took ages to remember where to find the setting to revert it. And still its stuck on.

Download good lock and the Navstar add-on. There's an option for toggling this.
