Does anyone have any idea when Google is going to roll out the update for Google messages that allows you to use a wallpaper background from your gallery instead of those nasty pre selected color bubbles for a chat? I thought i heard they were going to release something to that effect early 2026, seeing as how the need to compete with A**ple and they are already doing this.

Your best bet is probably to go to the Play Store, find Google Messages, and sign up to beta test the app. It may not currently be open, but that's how you'll get features before they're rolled out to the stable channel.

I want to say it was on the help&feedback for google messages but not 100% if thats where i saw it. I guess there are ALOT of users that are asking for this. Its already on Iphones (my wife has one) and it is reallllly cool and lets you personalize the app to your liking. You know how it goes, when one does it, the other usually follows suit to compete😀, just wasnt sure if there was other concrete info out there.
