Does anyone have any idea when Google is going to roll out the update for Google messages that allows you to use a wallpaper background from your gallery instead of those nasty pre selected color bubbles for a chat? I thought i heard they were going to release something to that effect early 2026, seeing as how the need to compete with A**ple and they are already doing this.

I don't see a need for it. It's a communication app. I never had Samsung Messages themed either, just bubble colors. I don't have a need to have every aspect of my device themed.

I'm not opposed to a little bit of fun. I have an ongoing family Messenger chat where someone changes the shared background seasonally. It's festive, but I wouldn't call it a killer feature.

I just don't think the juice would be worth the squeeze for Google to develop an IM (a la iMessage) to implement and place on top of RCS, etc.

... On second thought, maybe they should do it so people will finally switch to Google Messages ๐Ÿ˜‚

It has everything I need. Everyone that sent Christmas wishes to me yesterday, beautiful animations when opening and sending.

I have seen some of peoples themes in Samsung Messages. Just hurt my eyes, like the demo you showed me the other day. I don't even have Samsung messages on my phone. I won't help anymore for that app, except to tell them to switch.

It's not that, I don't spend my life texting. In and out, that's me.

I probably have a lot of years on you. I still use punctuation, especially periods. Gen Z find them rude, go figure!
