Since the most recent update on my Galaxy S21 phone, the icons for apps running in the background no longer show in the notification bar. I have to click on "active apps" to see if they're running. Is there a way to get them back, so I can just glance at the bar to see if they're running?

Use the Notistar set notifications unable to clear.  Select Malwarebytes and any other app you want to keep the notification showing.  The card will remain up. That's what I do. These running apps will remain after any other notification is cleared.  The "clear" icon does not even appear if there are no other notifications.

If  you mean the persistent notifications, you have to download Good Lock and the NotiStar module.  Here are instructions on what you have to do.  First go to this post:

https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Apps-and-Services/Good-Lock-NotiStar-quot-Set-app-unable...

After you've followed the instructions to get to the labs,  once you get to "set notifications unable to clear", tap the text and select which app notifications you don't want to clear when you hit the "clear" icon.

If you are referring to the status bar icons like Bluetooth and alarms, those are now visible when you swipe down from the top of your screen.

Thanks for your reply, but no, that's not what I mean. I'm talking about apps which run in the background all the time, like MalwareBytes and my earthquake warning app. Those icons used to show in the top status bar to show they are running. Now they are in "active aps" only, so I have to click to check.

Thanks. That sounds good, but can you tell me where I'll find Notistar? I'm not seeing it.

You have to download Good Lock from the Galaxy Store, once Good Lock is installed, you will see a list of the different modules.  You would then tap the download symbol next to the ones you want to download.  You can see the description of each module to decide if it would be useful to you before downloading.
