First I would recommend trying your device in safe mode to see if you still experience these symptoms. If your phone is misbehaving, it's possible that a third-party app is causing the issue. To figure out what app is acting funny, you can use the Safe Mode feature. In Safe Mode, your phone won't run any third-party apps. This allows you to easily identify and remove the app that may be causing the problem.

Have you tried adjusting the media volume independently:

- Go to settings > sound and vibration > volume > turn the media volume up

Do you have the Media Volume limit turned on?

- Go to settings > sound and vibration > volume > tap the dots in the top right corner > tap on media volume limit > and make sure the media volume limit is set to off

Do you have Dolby Atmos turned on?

- Go to settings > sound and vibration > sound quality and effect > Dolby Atmos

Have you tried playing around with the equalizer on your device?

- Go to settings > sound and vibration > sound quality and effect > equalizer > and chose the setting best for your sound needs

Have you tried to adapt sound setting on your device?

- Go to settings > sound and vibration > sound quality and effect > adapt sound > and chose the setting best for your sound needs

There are a few things that can cause issues with the speaker on your phone. For example, there could be an external device where the audio is being redirected to. It's possible that a software glitch or physical damage is causing the problem.

Give this link a try for some troubleshooting steps regarding the speaker not working on your device: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01001255/

Also, I would try wiping the cache partition on your device, give these steps a try:

  1. urn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 - 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  5. Press the Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If all of the troubleshooting steps above don't resolve the symptoms you would need service on your device. You can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by calling customer support at 1-800-726-7864.
