There are a few things I wish Google Messages had, Select copy, and categories.

It's just reluctance to change.

It doesn't matter if it's better. To some users, if anything is even slightly different from what they're used to, it's automatically "worse."

They don't want to use "third party" apps, not even realizing that Google is a first party app, being native to Android.

Mostly the emojis. I use emojis all the time and HATE google emojis, samsung emojis look so much better and there's no option to view samsungs in google messages

Emojis??? That's why you don't want to switch?  What even makes you think the person on the other side cares about your emojis.  Emojis all look the same to me.  So, you would rather have a half functioning and dying app than one that works properly, and better, because of emojis?

Yes, because half of my messaging consists of using emojis and I cant stand google emojis everytime I look at them. Also the way I can change different notification sounds for different people is very useful. I tried using google messages for a while to see if I will get used to it but I havent and still hate them. As well as the way to attach images, which is so much easier than google messages way, with it taking up half the screen and separating per month.
