Galaxy S PhonesActually there is the Samsung Cloud, and it may be possible that images were backed up if your device has been performing regular backups. You need to check backup and restore settings in the device settings. It's under Accounts and Backup, I do believe. I could be wrong, I am not 100% positive that photos are backed up.
Edit: You can also try downloading the app DiskDigger from the PlayStore to try and recover any lost photos, in hopes that they are still on the device somewhere.

Galaxy S Phones@user2xONIOgURD Samsung Cloud photo backup was discontinued quite a while ago.
If you enabled the integrated OneDrive backup in Gallery, the photos would be backed up in the cloud on OneDrive.
Or if you turned on photo backup in Google Photos, they would be backed up on the cloud in Google Photos.
