Is there a way you can change the default colors of the bubbles from the text messages format. I'm not liking these bright colors and I don't want to download any themes?
You have to go into settings and then Themes. You now have to change your theme to have a background or different colored bubbles for conversations .
Go to: Apps > Settings > Wallpapers & Themes. Here you'll be able to change not only the text message window, but a number of visual aspects on your phone.
Be sure to click " ✓ Accept as Solution" when you find an answer that works for you.
