I installed a replacement screen on my note 20 ultra the other day. It doesn't register touch with my finger, only S pen.

I noticed the FW version for my device differs from the "part" FW version.

Phones TSP FW: SE23980238

Parts TSP FW: SE17710228

Based on the numbers being higher for the phones FW, I assume it's a newer version. I've read several other people had issues with their device screens not registering touch right after updating. A commonality between everyone who had that issue was... they'd all had screen replacements.

I recall several people mentioning OneUI versions while talking about this. Apparently, many people had screens replaced between OneUI 5 and 7. People were complaining that they couldn't downgrade their devices after installing OneUI 6. (Or something along those lines).

My device info shows my OneUI version as 5.1

The android version is 13. Idk if there's any other relevant info I should add here.

I feel like, the screen should work correctly if I could change the TSP FW to match the parts version. I've never used ODIN or anything like that. So all that stuff is way over my head. I'm dirt poor, though & can't afford to buy an OEM screen. So I'm willing to learn and attempt changing the firmware myself on my phone.

It seems like doing so should be possible, as long as Samsung hasn't disabled it somehow.

Can anyone help me figure out how to do this? Would I need to reinstall a whole new device FW? I've tried looking up info about the specific version of TSP FW, but nothing really shows up. I'm just at a total loss at this point.

I can't continue to only use the s pen to use my phone, though. It's a pain in the a$$, and requires two hands.

PLZ HELP!!!😫

I'm sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, these kinds of risks do exist with non-official parts and repairs.

My recommendation would be to consult a certified Samsung repair center, though based on your post, it sounds like this isn't preferable.

Hope you get it sorted!

Your new screen is likely not compatible with your old hardware. Also, if it is not an OEM part, it may not work properly. One can't just slap any old screen on a device. It must be compatible. Even if it is an OEM part, likely they no longer make the screen for your old device.

I can't accept any of these answers as the solution.

With all of the ways people can go in and change things with phones (like, rooting and changing entire operating systems, etc), I feel there should be a way to change the touch screen firmware version.

I heard it's not possible to downgrade using ODIN (because Samsung won't allow it). But it's supposed to be possible using TWRP.

I've never used either for anything. If I could find the necessary info, I'd def give it a go, though. Unfortunately, the info I need to attempt it doesn't exist anywhere on the internet.

I kinda figured all the answers on here would tell me to buy an OEM screen. I wish that was an option for me.

Unfortunately, I've been bedridden level ill for over a decade, with no means of income. I was lucky I managed to get the 3rd party screen!

If anyone reads this in the future & knows how to downgrade touch screen firmware using TWRP, or any other program, please let me know. I'm sure I'll still be stuck using this old phone, only with the s pen.

Even if someone was able to supply you with the information to do what you are asking, if you have not done any of that before, the very real possibility exists that you can brick your phone, in which case you will be left with no means of communication.  I am sure there are corners of the web that can provide that information with the right search terms.  You might try inquiring on a reddit forum.
