Galaxy Note Phones

So, my brother has been having problems with his Galaxy Note 20 phone for a few weeks now. The service drops randomly, even in strong signal areas, and, he has no service when at home(even tho I do). Now, I have proton vpn installed on my phone. I use it, and I heard it messes with phone services if used. We are under the same plan with Verizon Wireless, and we have the same model phone, unlimited talk/text. But, I have no problems with my service, unless in a place with low signal. He tried everything. Turned off wifi calling, put it in airplane mode, reset the sim card, reset the phone, etc. But, nothing worked. Did my usage of the vpn cause his phone to have service issues?

Usage of a VPN should have nothing to do with your phone reception. Try resetting network settings to see if this alleviates your issue.

Generally, issues with cellular network connections will need to be resolved by your carrier, so I would contact them.

If your carrier is unable to resolve the issue, you may consider visiting a certified Samsung repair center to diagnose the issue and determine what repairs (if any) need to be completed.

He reset his phone, but did he reset the mobile network?  Resetting the phone does not necessarily do that unless you select the option.  Did either of you run a diagnostic on his  phone to see if the antennas are at fault. Is he only having issues with the Mobile signal or wi-fi, as well?  If he is having signal issues, he most definitely keep wi-fi calling on, that way he should be able to make and receive calls when connected to wi-fi at least.

You say you use a VPN, I don't understand how that would affect his phone.  What's on your phone should not affect the workings of anyone else's phone, unless you have installed the VPN on your router - which still should not affect a mobile signal.  VPNs are made to not interfere with cellular or wi-fi service - they'd be useless if they did.  If you installed the VPN on his phone, try removing it (or simply turning it off) to see if that improves the situation.  If it's on his phone, he may be on a different server than you and his signal may be degraded, he can try switching servers.  If nothing works, then contact Verizon, they may have to do some re-provisioning.  You can also have the phone evaluated at a uBreakiFix location to see if the phone itself is defective.
