Any suggestions on how to reset password for the lock screen.

Factory reset in recovery is your only option. To enter recovery, first turn off your device. Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Side/Power button until you feel a vibration and the Samsung logo appears. Let go of the buttons.

If you actually factory reset, it won't be asking for a password. In recovery, did you use the volume buttons to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" and then execute with the side/power button?

Likely Factory Reset Protection. Do you have access to the Google account that was on the device?

To confirm, when you attempted to factory reset from the Recovery Menu as @Mujibar instructed, it was still asking you for a password to execute the reset? There shouldn't be any prompt for passwords in the Recovery Menu. You will need to enter the Google account name and password that was previously used on the device after it has been factory reset.

Sorry for the late response but it was asking me for the password. I finally got around without doing the factory reset. It eventually asked if I had forgotten the password and asked if I remembered the previous one. Muchas Gracias!!!!!!!

You might be able to unlock the phone through Samsung's (and/or Google's) 'Find My Phone', (now 'SmartThings Find') web pages if you set them up before this occurrence.

https://smartthingsfind.samsung.com/login

https://www.google.com/android/find/?login

UPDATE: In looking at these sites you can do some things, but you can not unlock a device. Sorry.
