You can change the setting in your camera app. Also you can change the photos you have using the gallery apps editing features or rename the files extension using file manager

Go in your camera settings menu. It's in the "format and advanced options" section.

Batch convert what you already have, on pc. Likely something out there for mobile but I doubt a free option exists as apps always greed for cash, ads, and watermarking.
