I bought an adapter cord that is a C on one side and hdmi on the other so I could use my phoneon my tv and it's not working. It's there something I should be doing or a setting i need to change?

Yeah, the A14 is basic. It likely does not have the HDMI capability, but there still should be an auto blocker feature in the security settings.
