I'm trying to fix an issue with my elderly mother-in-law's Galaxy A03s. The TL;DR is that when the phone connects to any WiFi, there is a warning that there is no internet access and a small ! appears on the WiFi signal icon when I know the WiFi is working just fine. A few details:

  • The phone does not have active cell service, so WiFi is the only connectivity
  • This problem happens on every WiFi network; I have connected the phone to several WiFi networks that use different ISPs, router hardware, etc., and in all cases I made sure that other devices on those WiFi networks could stream and download just fineā€”so the problem does not seem specific to the WiFi
  • I have tried several remediation steps based on information I found online, none of which have worked:
    • I restarted the phone
    • I reset network settings
    • I made sure the date/time is correct
    • I restarted the phone in safe mode

An odd thing is that the Samsung Internet browser is able to fully access the internet from this phone despite the no-internet warning. I can go to any site as if nothing was amiss using Samsung Internet, but in the main Chrome browser I get the "no internet connection" warning. Same thing in the Play Store, Gmail app, etc. No app can reach the internet except the Samsung Internet browser.

For context, I'm trying to get internet connectivity working so this phone I can install the Samsung Smart Switch app in the Play Store to transfer this phone's contents to a new phone. My mother-in-law, the owner of the A03s, did not enable any cloud backups, so unfortunately there is data on the phone I would like to recover, and I can't install Smart Switch without internet access.

If anyone has any troubleshooting suggestions I would appreciate it. I would rather not give up on restoring internet access over WiFi so I can install Smart Switch.

So you have wifi yet no internet connectivity and cannot download Samsung Smart Switch from Google playstore, is that it ?

Does your phone have the correct password to access your router ?

Have you restarted your router ?

Yes, the phone has a connection to the WiFi router, but there is a small exclamation mark on the WiFi signal icon indicating no internet connectivity. The WiFi password is definitely connect because it is connected to WiFi, just without internet.

This problem is not related to the router or ISP because the phone behaves this way on every WiFi network (I have tried at least 3).

And yes, I'd like to restore internet connectivity to install Smart Switch via the Google Play store.

Download Samsung Smart Switch in Galaxy store since your Samsung browser is working.

That's a good thought but unfortunately it didn't work. While the Samsung browser is working, the Samsung store it not working, just like the regular Play store.

Humm. Data recovery problem.

I'd download Samsung Smart Switch as apk file to your computer and then install on ao3 phone by usb cable connection to ao3's internal storage, make sure you enable " unknown sources" in phone settings to install apps from sources other than Google Play store.
Also install Samsung Smart Switch on your new phone to transfer the data too. You can also Download the data from the old phone to computer and then transfer to new phone.
