I have a Samsung Galaxy A42 5G. In my Messages App, I select settings, tap Block numbers and spam, tap Block numbers, turn on Block calls from unknown numbers. Every message still gets through. What does the app consider an "unknown number"?

Some calls get do get through.  You can report it as spam and block it. Tap the number in your call list, tap the info circle on the far right, look on the bottom of the screen, and choose "report" and then report and block the number. I believe they consider unknown numbers as calls that do not have a caller ID.  It sometimes comes up on screen (if not blocked) as unknown number.  Blocking all spam and scam calls will block everyone not in your contact list when the call is listed as "possible spam" or "spam likely". Numbers without a name attached (just the number showing in caller ID) that has not been flagged as "spam", "spam likely" or "possible spam" may still ring through.  Keep in mind some legitimate services and businesses may only put their numbers in the caller ID, but not their names.  This is the case with many business rollover lines.  If one of those numbers rings through, and you know it is spam, report it.

In the messages app, Samsung messages is not as good at blocking spam messages as Google messages is, so if you want to not see the spam messages, switch to Google messages and turn on the spam blocking.

Blocking unknown numbers is if a call says for example in caller ID private number or no caller id
