I purchased a Samsung A16 5G and added a line to my Verizon wireless account to begin transitioning from my current iPhone to Android (fed up with Apple locking features to only working or sharing with their devices).  For the most part, I am satisfied with Android except for the ability to block unwanted calls.  This may force me to abandon my switch to Android.  I have tried "Block calls from unknown numbers" in the phone app settings, but that did not work.  I have tried "Block spam and scam calls" using Hiya and that did not work.   I have also tried setting Do Not Disturb so that only calls in my contacts will come through, but that did not work.  Verizon call filter also does not seem to help.

What I WANT to see is "if the caller is not in my contacts then DO NOT RING".  Simple as that.  Works great on the iPhone.  I cannot understand why setting "Block calls from unknown numbers" on Samsung/Android does not work.  "Unknown" means not in my contacts.  This is important since I get multiple unknown (and unwanted) calls each day.

That's not what "block calls from unknown numbers" means. In the Google dialer, it's actually described as "block unidentified callers," which is any number that doesn't show up on caller ID. Unfortunately, that description doesn't appear in the Samsung dialer, but that is what it means.

It sounds like you've turned on every setting you can. For numbers that still ring through, you can block them in your call list. This is a reactive measure, but it will ensure you don't get calls from those numbers again.

Another option is to use a third-party screening app like Truecaller. Keep in mind that many of these apps have subscription fees.

This is ineffective for spam calls. They just change a single digit in their number and call again either immediately or the next day.

The "Do Not Disturb" feature on Samsung devices allows you to control notifications and alerts, ensuring you can have uninterrupted time when needed. To enable it:
Go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb.

- You can customize which notifications, alerts, or calls you want to allow during this mode.
- Set a schedule for when you want the feature to activate automatically.
- If you encounter issues, ensure the feature is activated and check for any exceptions set for notifications
