I have owned a A52s since new and of course no longer getting updated. Is it safe to carry on using banking apps with thus phone or should I get a new phone?
Eh, technically and eventually it will become unsafe, because new security holes/risks could still be found in legacy modules (APIs) of your One UI system. Also, since you can't update your phone, eventually your banking apps will have updates that will not be compatible. At that point, your banking app will either stop working, or operate with security flaws and holes.
So in theory all it should be ok to carry on using the banking apps/paypal etc...? it hasn't been long since the last security update.. I think in September
Keep in mind, (and I can't stress this enough) your banking apps will have some login creditials stored on your phone, and the app itself has considerable control over your banking account. The longer you use a non-updatable phone, the easier it will be for hackers to sneak in a controlling or snooping malware.
If you are not getting a new phone, you should look into other means and avenues to do your banking needs instead of through your phone. For the immediate present though, and if you really must, you can still use your phone and banking apps as long as you are able to get updates for those banking apps. In most cases, banking apps would stop working after a new update is issued (normally by changing the name and/or log-in proceedure of their servers that the app must use) for the very same reasons I had just stated above.
