I bought a replacement charging port on eBay and used this video to do the replacement:

The process was clear and, after an hour of careful work (old eyes, fat hands), the phone worked just fine.

Thanks to all in the previous thread for their encouragement.

I'm glad you have more confidence than I do to take apart your phone and fix it yourself you've got a skill that I do not have I personally would have not done that I would have had someone I know that can do that or send it off to get repaired but congratulations on being able to fix your phone yourself

Believe me, I waited a long time to get up the confidence. I did electronics design & repair for many years, but this stuff is so small! I'm 75 now, so had to be extra cautious.

Like I said I do not have the confidence so I will pay a certified repair place to do it for me because if I mess it up I have to buy a whole new phone it the repair place messes it up depending they're the ones that are usually liable
