SmartThings app will not download

The SmartThings app will not download to my phone.  Phone runs Android 8.0.0 with 2.4 gb of available memory.  That is supposed to be sufficient.  I need this to use my new Samsung refrigerator.  The phone is Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit.  I have been working on this for days.  That's how I know that the published requirements are Android 8 or above and 2 gb memory.  (The app will not download to my tablet, either, which runs Android 11.  Tablet is also Samsung.)
