Q60 smart TV voice assistant malfunction

The voice assistant feature of my Samsung Smart TV 
interrupts at random intervals during programs or streaming programs.  The voice assistant interrupts with a message saying it cant understand the question and needs more information, or it gives some rubbish that is apparently an answer to a question it must have picked up from the program that I am watching.
This is very annoying and happens several times a night.  When it happens, the audio is muted for up to 20 seconds while the assistant tries to answer queries.
Can anyone suggest how to get the voice assistant to stop interrupting?

A quick search got me this. Is your mic turned on?

To turn off the microphone on your Samsung Smart TV, you can:

1. Use the microphone switch located on the TV
2. Go to the Settings menu, select Smart Features, scroll down to Voice Recognition, and switch it off
3. Access the Voice Guide Settings in the Accessibility menu and turn off Voice Guide
4. In newer versions of Samsung Smart TV, go to Home, click on the settings icon, select Expert Setting...
