The M.2 was matched to the original motherboard when the password was set.  The password should have been cleared before changing out the motherboard.  Having the M.2 passworded when the board was changed is the same as someone stealing the M.2 and installing in a different computer which activated the built in security protocols and locked out any attempt to access the drive data by password or any other method.

  The only recourse is to wipe the drive and start over.

You did have a backup of the M.2?
