How does the upper oven bake with only a top heating coil?  Isn't this Broil?

Doesn't Bake usually require a bottom heating coil?

The question was if the top heating coil was used to Bake in the top oven.  Is it?

I know how to use the range, but all the items I try to bake in the oven turn out like this:

I am using the Convection Bake function, but it only seems to broil.  In the past, the Bake function worked well, but apparently it now can only broil.

Is my range broken?

Understood and we do recommend when baking a cake or other pastries to use the bake mode not the convection bake mode as this will produce better results. By using the convection bake feature, you will be able to cook faster and the placement of the racks is important. Do you mind if I ask, are you using convection baking with a single rack or multiple racks during the bake?

I was using the convection bake setting, 350 degrees in the upper oven, which only has one rack and was used in the A position. As shown on page 34 of the operating manual.

The only settings for the upper oven are convection bake, convection roast, and broil (high or low). 

I had a similar result when baking a potato.

Thank you for that update and the final inquiry would be if you have attempted to adjust the cooking temperature? The instructions on how to perform the adjustment can be found on page 44. Does this still occur after the temperature adjustment?

I have not adjusted the cooking temperature. The ovens have worked properly until this week, and looking at the charred foods, a simple 35-degree adjustment would not produce the correct result. 

I am trying to identify the actual process the range undergoes during the Convection Bake selection in the Upper Oven.  I'm embarrassed to admit that I never realized that there was only an open heating element in the upper oven. If the only elements working during the Convection Bake cycle in the upper oven are the open heating element and the rear fan, then the problem lies with these parts. It appears as if the Broil process is activated despite my selecting the Convection Bake option. Looking through the Community posts, I've seen that this has occurred several times with other range owners.

The lower oven has only an enclosed heating element and has not charred any items.

I have been testing all of my oven combinations.

Top Oven Only- Convection Bake:  top of croissant burnt to a crisp; bottom not cooked

Bottom Oven Only- Bake: Bottom of croissant burnt; top not cooked

Total Oven with no Divider: not yet tested.

Anything you cook with convection needs to have the time adjusted.  The circulating fan will cook things faster.  Cakes, pastries and other baked goods do not handle convection well, as they usually require precise temperatures for a specific amount of time.  No rushing the bake process.  That being said, a convection oven does not necessarily require an upper and lower element, as the fan circulates the oven heat (hence, convection).  Food items that may be likely to char (things with breadcrumb tops, pastry tops,  cheese, etc., should sit well below the heating element and/or be covered loosely with foil for the first part of cooking.  Check convection cooking charts to see how to convert the time from conventional baking to convection baking.  You usually need to allow 15 minutes to a half hour less, depending on what you are cooking.
