Kitchen and Family HubOur refrigerator (model no. RF28R7351SR) recently began emitting a chemical smell. We can smell this smell as soon as we open the doors, and it has made its way into the ice. We have checked for spoiled food, cleaned the fridge, and have added baking powder boxes inside the fridge, to no avail. Please help. Thank you. - Jeremy

A persistent chemical smell in your refrigerator could be caused by a few issues, some of which require professional attention. The smell may come from a refrigerant leak, off-gassing from plastic components, or a burning electrical part.

The causes can be from just as "pianodude58" said. I recommend you have the refrigerator looked at by a professional. I wouldn't use the ice anymore until you get the chemical smell out. Your refrigerator may still be under warranty, so check on that.
