I am very, very upset. I purchased a Samsung range in April 2023 and have used it normally, an average of 2 times a month, with no major spills or harsh cleaning. The interior oven liner coating is now cracking, flaking, and pitting. When the oven is used, it emits strong chemical fumes that burn the eyes, and paint flakes fly around in the oven when convection is on, making it VERY unsafe and unable to operate.

Samsung Specialty Claims support has advised that I must pay an initial $240 to have a technician determine whether this is a manufacturing defect, despite many similar reports online describing the same issue of deterioration and fumes.

This does not appear to be cosmetic. It is a safety and materials failure that affects food preparation and indoor air quality.

I would love to know:

  • Whether this liner degradation, fume emission, and flaking enamel paint is a known issue

  • Why customers are responsible for diagnostic fees when safety symptoms are present

  • What resolution is available for units less than two years old

I have been a loyal Samsung customer, as every appliance and TV I own is Samsung, so I will be very disappointed if this is not resolved and addressed appropriately.

Out of curiosity, did they say the $240 was refundable if it was determined that it's a manufacturer defect? Or applied to repair if it's determined to not be?  I can't see how it's not a manufacturer defect if you were using the oven normally. However, being 2 years old, it's out of warranty, so a fee would apply for a diagnostic against a repair. Even if it was a self-cleaning oven and you used the self-clean cycle (never do this), it's supposed to be able to stand up to that kind of heat.

They did, it is not refundable or applicable even if itโ€™s deemed a manufacturer's defect. I realized that there was a limited warranty for the first year, but it is baffling to me that a clear manufacturer's defect in a part is not under warranty longer.
