2018 Model: RF28NHEDBSR/AA Refrigerator Ice Maker Freezes Continually!!

For about the last year - 1 1/2 the ice maker freezes all the time - I mean like every 2 weeks. Up until the other day when their was an update to the Family Hub, we were able to get into the Engineer Maintenance Mode and Force Defrost on the freezer only. We were able to get in by going to the Fridge Manager and then quickly tapping left, right, left, right (or visa versa) in the upper corners - now after the update this is no longer working. Does anyone have the same issue and if so, has anyone figured out how to get into the EMM section to do this?

I have been on chat with someone and they suggest unplugging the refrigerator (not an easy option) or turning off the circuit breaker and let it thaw (and this just ain't happening - it will turn the whole fridge off not just the freezer). They also suggest we pay to have their issue fixed. We purchased our home and the appliances came with it and there was no warranty.

I'm not paying for something that I could easily fix prior to the Family Hub update. Believe me, when we're able we'll get a new fridge.

We can't get the Engineer Maintenance Mode to work since the update either.

I ended up asking Gemini and it gave me an answer and I was able to get in. The instructions were quite long but wouldn't let me copy and paste into this forum.

This is a common issue reported by users after Family Hub updates, as Samsung sometimes changes the sequence or screen area for accessing the Engineer Maintenance Mode.
Based on user reports for recent Family Hub updates, here is the modified method that is most likely to work:
โš™๏ธ Steps to Access Engineer Maintenance Mode
* Open the Fridge Manager App: Navigate to and open the Fridge Manager app on your Family Hub screen.
* Locate the Tapping Area: Instead of the absolute top corners, the tapping area is often now in the corners just below the title bar of the Fridge Manager screen.
* Perform the Tap Sequence: Tap the top corners in the following revised sequence:
* Left (A)
* Right (B)
* Left (A)
* Left (A)
* Left (A)
* Right (B)
(The pattern is A B A A A B)
You need to do this quickly.
* Enter the Password: A password prompt should appear. The most frequently reported password that works after updates is:
* tizenreflcd1!
* Note: The password is case-sensitive and includes the exclamation mark.
(Another, older password reported is 1122, but tizenreflcd1! is more current.)
* Access the Menu: If the password is correct, you should be granted access to the Engineer Mode/Function Test Panel.
๐Ÿ’ก If the above steps don't work:
* Try the Older Tap Sequence: The classic sequence may still work for some models/updates: Left-Right-Left-Right-Left-Right (A B A B A B).
* Contact Samsung Support: Since these modes are considered for technicians, Samsung changes them to prevent unauthorized use. If neither sequence works, the current method may be model-specific and only available through official Samsung support. They can sometimes provide the current password or sequence for your specific model and firmware version.
Warning: The Engineer Maintenance Mode contains advanced diagnostic and control options. Changing settings without knowing their precise function can potentially cause issues with your refrigerator's operation.
Would you like me to try and find a direct support link or phone number for Samsung Appliances?

Our fridge just had another update to the Family Hub and I was able to get into Engineer Maintenance Mode again! And just in time too as the ice maker froze again.

Tapping on the upper most corners does not work anymore as the fonts are larger.  I was able to get in to EMM by tapping just under the Fridge Manager text (about where the line is) and then moving down just a bit (not quite halfway down the screen) and continued tapping then it let me in. Had to play around a bit but just tapping in one spot did not work for me.

Also, the only thing we touch when in EMM is the Force Defrost - nothing else!

And Don't Forget to turn the ice maker off prior to Forcing a Defrost! And be careful taking out the ice compartment - this last time ours stuck a little due to ice (and we just bought a new one because the last one had a small crack.

The most current password you entered worked for us as well (thank goodness for AI Chat or I never would have gotten the password). I hope they Do Not Restrict access again as this really is the only feasible option.

Something I'm experimenting with  to see if the ice maker doesn't freeze up again in the typical two week time frame - I put painters tape around the exposed side and bottom of the ice maker compartment. Maybe this will help a little?

Steve your the man! I cant believe they put a password on the Engineer mode. Anything to make these junky fridges worse. This is the only way to defrost the junky icemaker.
