"Basic" Battery Protection Mode Not Working

Hi, me again.

So after my post the other day, I switched to Basic battery protection mode. The one where it charges to 100%, then let's it drop to 95% before charging again.

Well, it didn't work. It charged to 100% and held it there. I can switch to Maximum protection and it immediately stops charging, but on basic (or adaptive as it hasn't learned my sleep habits yet) it just keeps it at 100% all night.

I will add that while I'm fairly certain I am using an official (from my S22U) charging brick, I'm not using a Samsung USB-C cable. I'm not sure how that could be the issue, or if it is, but I wanted to mention it at least. I also hadn't restarted my phone after changing the setting, but this morning before my restart I DID change it to Maximum and it immediately stopped charging. After my morning restart, (back on Basic) I plugged it back in and even though it was still at 100%, it started charging again.

I'm trying to not let this phones battery die like the rest of the Android lineup, so any ideas? The phone is less than two weeks old. Works flawlessly other than this.

Hey MetalMatty, Thanks for being part of the Community. We understand the concern with Basic Battery Protection not working correctly.

Just a quick recap of troubleshooting options:

1. Clear cache partition of phone.

2. Clear cache of Device Care

3. It is recommended to use a Samsung Charger and Charging Cable

We recommend submitting feedback through the Support Tab in the Members app to provide the data to Samsung. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692 This will provide the data logs from the phone to Samsung developers.

If the phone stops charging service is recommended.

You can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by contacting customer support at 1-800-726-7864.

My adaptive hasn't learned my sleeping habits yet so it doesn't work at all - but even the basic doesn't limit the charging like it should.

I'm under 95% now so I'm gonna plug it in and see what it does now.

@ButtaBean_420  I have ordered a Samsung charger and cable. I will update you if that seems to fix it

Thanks for the tip.

Turns out the brick i was using is some off brand 25w brick, and the cable is some generic one, so maybe this is my issue.

I let it drop down to 94% and plugged it into a different charger - same thing.

Charged up to 100% and never stopped.

I guess if nobody has an idea here I'll reach out to Samsung support and see what they recommend.

Unfortunately no. A Samsung charger and cable didn't change it.

A Samsung charger and cable didn't change anything either. I guess I'll just run my custom routines until it decides to start working, lol

Hey yeah cheers for reply... I just contacted Samsung (useless)... Also sent an error report though members app.

Weirdly it was working the first week I had my phone... And last few days just stopped! No other changes made.

The max works fine so using that right now at 90 percent but may just stick a routine on too

Had exactly same issue with my s21 too - worked some weeks and not others! I use a mix of wireless pad / wired and car chargers and all the same

Tried clearing system cache.. No change

Must be a stupid bug - not much online about it but I would guess 99 percent of people probably would not know what to look for as its just those who like to tinker and deep dive settings make the discovery!

Will update if I get anywhere with the error report
