I just bought the ultra S25 after having the s21 for a few years and I am terribly disappointed. I already replaced the phone once because of dark camera. New phone camera selfies make s21 camera look like a beauty camera. No apps compare. I want to replace my phone but I didn't want iphone. I was hoping samsung would address, but they're not. And I checked other models. Many new phone cameras are horrible compared to the old. I'm surprised samsung would do this. Now I have to look at iphones, but I do like the ultra s25 size and features. But camera matters.

Galaxy S25The S25 selfie camera should be high dynamic range (HDR) so should handle Sahara noon sunlight to midnight small town streetlights with detailed results. The S21 also has HDR cameras but I understand they aren't "exercised" as well as on the S25. It's possible for HDR frames to look a bit faded on some displays but not others. The phone has lower screen resolution than even the selfie camera so you can often see better results by maximizing the zoom when viewing and scrolling around the picture. One effect of scaling the whole frame to fit the screen size will be pixel merging for view purposes only but that reduces detail in a way that can make a frame seem dim or faded or even with incorrect colors, hence you might see more detail by viewing any frame with maximum zoom and get 1:1 pixel view but have to scroll around to get the whole picture (sic).
You can always force a brighter shot with exposure compensation, set it up at most once and leave it, there's a camera app Settings option to make it perist across closing and restarting the camera app but the compensation adjustment might require re-setting to your preference if you change the camera in-use or the shooting mode but it takes a second to set to a preferred value anyway. In the default still camera it's a circular button with a +/- symbol in it. In other modes that have it they usually call it EV. Increase it in steps of positive 0.5 (perhaps steps of 0.3) but I doubt you'd need to use more than +1.0 (which should be a doubling of the image lightness). Other items in the scene can make it necessary to use exposure compensation, taking a sefie with a source of light behind you for example. Trying a different composition of a single scene can make a big difference.
