I'm with the others. No need for an additional app when Google maps is perfectly fine. You can use it with Android Auto or standalone on your phone.

Thanks for your advice, but I'm wary of google apps.  Main reason is it's difficult to get how-to information and support when something goes wrong.

You have a Google based phone.  Use the Google apps.  Google Maps has been the most reliable map app.  You can likely download the Garmin app to your phone and use that, but I believe that most Android map apps are informed by Google Maps.  The one time I needed support for Google Maps, was when they had my home address pinned in the wrong location - this happens with multi unit buildings.  I reported it through their reporting feature and it was fixed in a day.  Other than that, for at least 15 years, Google Maps has served me, and others, without a hitch.  What kind of how-to information would you need - it's a map, it does map things.  The settings are self-explanatory.

Even if you were to use WAZE, still owned and informed by Google Maps, just more fun.

Your experience with Google is different from mine.

Waze is NOT "informed" by Google Maps. The two products use entirely separate maps. Most navigation apps use their own maps. Google does sometimes pull closure information from Waze. (I've been a volunteer editor for Waze since 2020.)
