I'm having the same problem as many others where I get the same pop up add every time I turn on the phone or wake the phone from sleep. I'm also getting unwanted apps (usually games) installed on my phone without my knowledge. My question is this: Is this something that is being caused by Samsung or is it coming from my carrier, AT&T?
My second question is this: For the unwanted add pop ups, I saw a suggestion to install an app that was said to be a Samsung App, called Nice Catch, that will let you know which app triggered it so that app could be removed. Is Nice Catch really a Samsung App and does it work?
Lastly I must include that most of the people that have been reporting the Pop Up Add issue have stated that the pop ups started right after the recent Samsung update and that they had not installed any new apps in quite some time, leading them to believe that the issue may lie with the new Samsung Update. Is this a legitimate concern?
You have a carrier locked phone. The games and that daily pop-up were added by your carrier. That is in your contract for the reduced pricing on your phone. The app is called "essentials" and I believe it can be turned off in the settings. You may have to enable showing system apps to find it in your apps list to turn it off. The games that get added can be uninstalled, but the will continue to be downloaded as long as you have a carrier branded device.
Factory unlocked phones do not get added/unwanted apps, and Samsung does not serve up advertisements. The reason people were noticing it after the update is that the updates first go to the carriers and the carriers add their software to the updates before distributing it to their subscribers. If you do not want this added bloatware, make your next phone a factory unlocked device.
