When I edit a photo, the original populated in my messages. Any way to fix this? Example attached shows the message preview vs what i actually sent (which I edited)

That should not be happening.  Have you cleared the cache from the gallery app?  Another thing you could try (but shouldn't have to go through it) is to save the edited version as a copy and send that in your messages and then delete the originals used.

How do I clear the cache for only that app? I checked settings and didn't see anything.

Saving the edited version as a copy is my solution but it is burdensome as it is time consuming and also creates multiple images.

I don't understand why it doesn't just fully overwrite the existing photo.

The easy way is to long press on the gallery app icon and tap the circled "i" on the upper right of the menu.  This will take you to the configuration settings.  Once the settings open, scroll down to the storage section, tap it and then select "delete cache".  The long way around to the same spot would be to open the settings app, go to apps, scroll to or search for the gallery app, and continue as above.

It is supposed to "overwrite" the existing photo -in a way, but, what it actually does is saves the edited copy as the one that shows up in the gallery and hides the original in case you want to revert to the original.  So, what is actually *should* be doing is replacing the original in the gallery with the edited version and that edited version is what should be showing if you put it in another app.

If you are sure you never want to revert to the original, you can just save the edited version and delete the original(s) or at some point clean out the hidden originals.  There's an option for that in the My Files app.  The invisible originals do take up space, so if you do a lot of edits, you should regularly be clearing them out.  Whichever way is easiest for you.

Thank you. I cleared cache and it did not work

I think it's an issue of the preview/thumbnail drawing from the original image data.

Also when I go into my gallery, there is NO original to delete. Only the edited version.

The original would be one of those invisible ones I told you about. Go to my files, manage storage and look for the item shown in my screen shots. The original will only show if you saved your edited version as a copy.

How do I save it in its own right?

Small update: it will send the edited version, the preview appears to be all that is broken. The first time I sent one it sent the original and now edited versions work.

In order to save as an copy, after you finish your edit, instead of hitting save, tap the dots on the bottom right and select save as copy.
