I wish we had more options in changing the color pallette and moving or making a colored blinking notification dot like the older phones had

Try suggesting this to Samsung...

Open the Members app, then at the bottom, click on "Support". Then under the Quick help section click on "Send feedback", click on send mail icon to begin to compose the suggestion, choose the category you think is best, then compose the suggestion and send away.
