This morning my Samsung Galaxy s25 automatically updated to UI 8.0, right now seems like my side button cannot mute my phone only can turn on the volume or vibration

Anybody has the same issue and why it's like this?

Just received the update today. Had no clue they were adding this trash slowly to everyone's phones. 3rd party apps and on screen buttons? Using their **bleep**ty modes system? Ridiculous. If I wasn't using them before then im not going to use them now. A good system improves on its ease of use, not destroy it. I don't need a solution, we had a solution already. All they did is create a problem for everyone who was used to a good function. I recognize there were already others who used different customization options before this update so it may seem strange to them why we would be mad. To put it simply, imagine one of your "routines" was removed and you were allowed to it add it back, like it wasn't even an option in the routines app. It's a minor inconvenience sure, you would just go and probably find another similar app that would let you do it again but let's be honest here. Why? Why should you need to do that? You had your "solution/customization". Why do you need to go re-add it through other means just because some random person in a company said to remove it? The people who are resisting your solutions are simply upset and wish to resist change and most importantly, they are resisting a bad update. I am resisting a bad update. Everyone be sure to send your feedback through proper channels. After that we merely hope and pray they hear our pleas.

Used to be able to put my phone into silent mode by holding the volume down button. Standard behavior for years and years. Then Samsung killed it for no reason at all. Has anyone heard of a fix for this yet?

I understand change can be frustrating. This particular change was likely made to prevent accidental silencing of the phone, resulting in missed calls/notifications.

Here's a workaround:
Settings > Modes and Routines > Routines. Tap the + in the top right.

If: button action > volume down > press and hold

Then: Sound Mode > Silent

Save the routine. Your phone now silences when you long press volume down.

Note: This method requires Routines+ to be installed.

To expound on @CEParsons fix, I have also set the opposite to turn sound back on for the long press of volume up.

Caveat, not silent, it's mute should this confuse you.
