I don't think it's superior in functionality. Being able to react to messages like iPhones do doesn't make it superior.

Reactions are the tip of the iceberg.

- Superior spam protection and filtering
- Universal RCS support regardless of carrier implementation
- End-to-end encryption
- Read receipts
- Typing indicators
- Higher quality photo/video sending and receiving
- better OTP management
- messages for web allows texting from other devices such as a PC or Mac

The list goes on.

@CEParsons โ€” if we compare the two:
I use two phones: a personal phone on Xfinity and a work phone on Verizon. On both devices, Samsung Messages provides:
- RCS support
- Typing indicators
-RCS encryption by default
(Also worth noting: Google Messages does not provide end-to-end encryption when texting iPhone users via RCS.)
- Higher-quality photo sharing over RCS
- Better message organization
- More customization options
- A Trash/Recycling bin for deleted messages
- Stronger filtering tools
- More preview lines in the conversation list
- Different notification sounds per contact
- More options for sending items over text (events, media, etc.)
- Link to Windows integration โ€” set it up once and manage everything from your PC, which provides a better overall web/desktop experience than Google Messages
In comparison, Google Messages on the web feels old and outdated and doesnโ€™t offer the same level of integration or usability.

- As for OTP management, at least for me, itโ€™s not a major advantage โ€” you can always delete messages manually. Many users donโ€™t even know what โ€œOTPโ€ stands for.

- Spam protection is better on Google Messages, but itโ€™s still not best-in-class.

Iโ€™m not claiming Samsung Messages is perfect or โ€œtop-notch,โ€ but it is a solid, well-rounded messaging app. My main point is that Google Messages isnโ€™t clearly superior, and I donโ€™t see a significant gap between the two. There are definitely better messaging apps out there overall. Like signal or WhatsApp.

I also understand that some users can't use RCS in Samsung Messages because of their carrier. I hope this makes sense.

Iโ€™m not upset at all โ€” I actually think itโ€™s good to have civil discussions like this. I donโ€™t feel Iโ€™ve been rude, and Iโ€™m just trying to explain where Iโ€™m coming from.
That said, I donโ€™t think your syllogism really supports the conclusion youโ€™re making.
Youโ€™re right on the first point: Samsung has made Google Messages the default on newer devices. But โ€œdefaultโ€ doesnโ€™t automatically mean better, and it doesnโ€™t mean users should switch if another app works better for them.
The second point is partly true, but I think itโ€™s overstated. Some Samsung Messages features are carrier-dependent, but RCS itself is carrier-dependent no matter which app you use. That limitation applies to Google Messages too in many regions. The fact that some users only get RCS through Google Messages doesnโ€™t mean Samsung Messages lacks feature parity for users who do have RCS enabled.
Where I disagree most is the conclusion. Being the default and having broader availability doesnโ€™t automatically make Google Messages the better or only reasonable choice. Availability isnโ€™t the same thing as capability.
Iโ€™m also not saying Samsung Messages has universal parity for every user on every carrier. My point is that where RCS is supported, thereโ€™s real parity โ€” and in some areas like UI customization, message organization, and Link to Windows desktop integration, Samsung Messages clearly does things Google Messages doesnโ€™t.
This isnโ€™t about being โ€œupsetโ€ over anything being phased out โ€” thatโ€™s an assumption. Itโ€™s really about recognizing that the two apps have different strengths

By all means, continue to use your preferred app, but but aware that Samsung messages is being deprecated and continued use is contrary to official guidance for most users.
