Galaxy S25I use two phones: a personal phone on Xfinity and a work phone on Verizon. On both devices, Samsung Messages provides:
- RCS support
- Typing indicators
-RCS encryption by default
(Also worth noting: Google Messages does not provide end-to-end encryption when texting iPhone users via RCS.)
- Higher-quality photo sharing over RCS
- Better message organization
- More customization options
- A Trash/Recycling bin for deleted messages
- Stronger filtering tools
- More preview lines in the conversation list
- Different notification sounds per contact
- More options for sending items over text (events, media, etc.)
- Link to Windows integration โ set it up once and manage everything from your PC, which provides a better overall web/desktop experience than Google Messages
In comparison, Google Messages on the web feels old and outdated and doesnโt offer the same level of integration or usability.
- As for OTP management, at least for me, itโs not a major advantage โ you can always delete messages manually. Many users donโt even know what โOTPโ stands for.
- Spam protection is better on Google Messages, but itโs still not best-in-class.
Iโm not claiming Samsung Messages is perfect or โtop-notch,โ but it is a solid, well-rounded messaging app. My main point is that Google Messages isnโt clearly superior, and I donโt see a significant gap between the two. There are definitely better messaging apps out there overall. Like signal or WhatsApp.
I also understand that some users can't use RCS in Samsung Messages because of their carrier. I hope this makes sense.

Galaxy S25That said, I donโt think your syllogism really supports the conclusion youโre making.
Youโre right on the first point: Samsung has made Google Messages the default on newer devices. But โdefaultโ doesnโt automatically mean better, and it doesnโt mean users should switch if another app works better for them.
The second point is partly true, but I think itโs overstated. Some Samsung Messages features are carrier-dependent, but RCS itself is carrier-dependent no matter which app you use. That limitation applies to Google Messages too in many regions. The fact that some users only get RCS through Google Messages doesnโt mean Samsung Messages lacks feature parity for users who do have RCS enabled.
Where I disagree most is the conclusion. Being the default and having broader availability doesnโt automatically make Google Messages the better or only reasonable choice. Availability isnโt the same thing as capability.
Iโm also not saying Samsung Messages has universal parity for every user on every carrier. My point is that where RCS is supported, thereโs real parity โ and in some areas like UI customization, message organization, and Link to Windows desktop integration, Samsung Messages clearly does things Google Messages doesnโt.
This isnโt about being โupsetโ over anything being phased out โ thatโs an assumption. Itโs really about recognizing that the two apps have different strengths
