So I've just activated and transferred over everything from my S22 and for some terrible reason, Google Messages has split every single text thread I had into separate strings. One will be the original thread, but they ripped out every text from non-RCS numbers AND images and put them into a separate group chat with yourself and that number they'd come from.
How can this be fixed? It's extremely frustrating.
Same, phone number is grayed out under advanced settings.
Edit: Had to clear data via app settings. Then was able to enter phone number, which made some of this better. I was not able to see messages I sent in group chats but now I can at least see those. However, incoming messages are still split.
This is not solved. All of these things that are mentioned do not work. Has Samsung considered that it may be the specific phone model doing this? I see lots of folks saying this is happening with the Samsung S20 FE. It's happening on my husband's but it is not happening on my Samsung S22.
under advanced settings, at the bottom, there is a setting called phone number. by default it says unknown. I assumed for some reason I should enter my phone number there. when I did, I started having the problem discussed above. when I went back and deleted my phone number from that setting, the problem disappeared. I don't know what that is, or why it asks for a phone number, but don't put your own phone number in there, or it'll start creating group chats for you, and segregating your GIFs to that new group chat. If you delete it, it will just recreate it. So go back and delete your phone number from that phone number setting at the bottom of advanced settings.
Very frustrating... All of a sudden, when I send a group text, the their replies do not come back in the same text thread... It opens up a new thread.. I went to the xfinity store who I have my cell service with?And they said, there's nothing I can do must have been some sort of an update. This is so stupid and frustrating.Now I have to look at multiple messages to see what the original message was
This happened to me as well. The solution that worked for me was installing and activating Textra as my default messaging app. I then switched back to Google messages as the default app. After doing that the text that was ripped out of conversations had been reintegrated. The new groups that had been made were still there though, but those could now be deleted.
