What does it mean when you plug in your phone with USB type C, when one side of the plug doesn't work but when you flip the plug over and re-plug it, it's now working. It's it more a phone issue or a cable issue?

Inexpensive low quality cables can cause much more damage than the money you save on the cable.

My phone's usb c port is going working and not working. Hopefully, a software update will help with that. Hopefully.

One of the features to usb-c is that the cable is able to be plugged in either way.  if this is not working then either the cable is defective, or the port has gone bad.  the best way to test this is to use a different cable.  if you experience the same issue, then the port itself is likely the culprit.

To ensure optimal and safe charging speeds with a USB-C gas station charging cable, the charger and battery control unit must communicate effectively. Inexpensive chargers often output only 1 watt and utilize thin cables that share a common ground for power and potentially only one neutral wire, thus limiting communication. This limitation particularly affects cables with USB-A and USB-C connectors. Investing in a high-quality charger and cable is recommended to avoid these issues.
