Samsung Money by SoFi debit card activation, Samsung Wallet freezes

To activate the card, you need to access Samsung Wallet, go to your Samsung Money by SoFi account, select "I got my card," and then tap the card against the NFC reader on the back of the phone. I have the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

When I tap the card, the phone vibrates, indicating it has read the card's information, but then nothing happensā€”the screen freezes. It seems like the next step's information, screen, or image is there, but it can't be viewed or interacted with. I have to close the app to use the phone again.

I havenā€™t been able to activate the card because of this issue. Does anyone know what can be done?

Have you rebooted the phone and/or cleared the app's cache?

Yes, I already cleared the app cache and restarted the phone, but the result is the same. I suspect itā€™s an issue with the app, but I need to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

The Samsung Wallet app was recently updated, and this happened before I received the card, so I have no way of knowing if the app worked correctly before the update.

Do you have any other cards in the app or one to try adding? Is there an option to manually add the card to activate? When I want to add a credit card, I can scan it or manually enter.

Yes, I have several cards from other banks, but only the Samsung Money by SoFi debit card requires activation using the phone's NFC reader. The others are activated by manually entering the information.

Iā€™ll try removing the Samsung Money by SoFi account from Samsung Wallet and adding it back to see if that helps.

I don't have a Samsung Money card, but when I tapped on the Samsung money section of the app (presumably, that's where one would apply), it just keeps spinning as if trying to load. Like you, I just got the app update and don't know if it worked before .

Well, after a long delay Samsung money opened for me. I did fiddle around in the cash back awards and gift card store before returning to SM, so I don't know if that unclogged it, or it just took awhile to set itself up.

I think itā€™s clear that the issue is either with the Samsung Money by SoFi debit card or the Samsung Wallet app. When I open the Samsung Wallet app and tap any other NFC-enabled card on the reader at the back of the phone, I get a message saying, "Card not supported." However, when I use the Samsung Money card, the app freezes and becomes unresponsive.

According to the instructions, after tapping the card on the NFC reader, the app should activate the card, but it doesnā€™t do anything. Iā€™ll try contacting someone from Samsung Money by SoFi to see if I can request a replacement card to rule out whether thatā€™s the issue.
