I recently switched from an S10 with One UI 4 to an S24 with One UI 7 and now One UI 8, and the widgets are absolutely horrible now. The font is way too big, and the widgets themselves have too much spacing between them, and they have super weird shapes, like the corners are all different between short-long and tall-narrow ones, and leaving a lot of empty space around.

Isn't the purpose of widgets to show a lot of info in a small section of the screen so one doesn't have to open the app??? One UI 7 was already quite bad compared to One UI 4 on my old S10, but now One UI 8 made it even worse!

Just look at the difference here:

  • The weather app doesn't show upcoming days anymore with the 3x2, you need at least a 3x3 for it to show that
  • The sleep records only show the stupid number and comment, I just wanna see how much I slept!
  • The alarm now doesn't show for which days it is scheduled in the 2x1
  • The digital wellbeing app doesn't show anymore the top 3 apps, only the first one, for it to show 3 apps you have to resize it to a taller aspect ratio.

All this info is still there to be shown, the problem is that you need to use BIGGER widgets for this info to fit in, as you can see in these other pictures where I tried to play around with widgets sizes:

So essentially if I want to see all this info I now need to have ENORMOUS widgets, basically taking up the entire home screen space, which again defies the purpose of widgets: displaying a lot of quick info in a small space!!! It should be fairly easy to shrink down a bit the text and fit all that info present in the wider version into the smaller version of each widget. Plus as you can see in the taller version of some widgets, there's a lot of empty space in the middle of the widgets for some reason.

Ultimately, here is what I meant at the beginning of the post when I was mentioning a lot of empty space between widgets and the shape inconsistency:

A few remarks:

  • Changing the Font Size & Style doesn't affects widgets font, only the text in menus, chat, apps, etc
  • I dug a lot into GoodLock and Home Up and no, there isn't a fix for this
  • I noticed that only widgets from Samsung's apps are affected by this problem of the text being huge

You know you can stack widgets of like sizes so they don't clutter up your screens like that. Widgets, by their nature, are not meant to show you every piece of information at a glance. It supposed to show you the most pertinent info, and then you are supposed to tap it for more details.

Yeah, I have a stack for the notes widgets, but I would like not to mix the rest, it's nice to see everything at one glance without the need of any extra input.

I don't mean that they should contain EVERY bit of information, but as you said they should show the most relevant one. I think the sleep widget well summarizes what I mean here. The most important info is how much I slept and from what time to what time; this would fit in a 2x1 widget, but no, I have to extend it to a 4x1 to see that.
