Galaxy S24I have gone through every setting on my phone. Made sure notifications were on sound was up etc. Googled and tried every suggestion. What has been happening and it started I feel like around the last update. I don't get a text preview (google messages) at the top of my screen or the audible/vibrate notification. All I get is the message icon appears. So basically if I'm doing anything where the top of the screen isn't visible I have no idea it came through. Even with my Samsung watch it doesn't show there. I feel like it has something to do with the silenced symbol next to the app. There are more than one like that. I've tried everything to get it to go away but no luck. Any one have this issue and found a fix? Appreciate any help thank you.

Galaxy S24Even with all notification settings appearing correct, messages are:
Not previewing at the top of the screen
Not triggering sound or vibration
Not appearing on the Samsung Watch
Only showing the message icon in the status bar
That little “bell with a line through it” (silenced icon) next to the app is a key clue — it means notifications are technically allowed, but they’ve been individually silenced, often due to a hidden change in system behavior or a glitch.
Here’s exactly what to do to fix it:
---
Fix the Silenced App Notification (Bell with Slash)
1. Open Settings
2. Go to Notifications > App notifications
3. Tap “See all” and scroll to Google Messages
4. If it shows “Silenced” or “Silent” under it, tap in
5. Under Notification categories, find “Incoming messages”
6. Make sure it is set to Alert, not Silent
Tap it, and under “Alert behavior”, choose Sound and pop-up or Sound
7. Also toggle “Minimize notifications” OFF (if it’s on)
---
Force Recheck Google Messages Notification Settings
Sometimes the app itself gets stuck after updates.
1. Open Google Messages
2. Tap the profile icon > Messages settings > Notifications
3. Tap Incoming messages
4. Make sure:
“Default” notification sound is selected (or any custom one you’ll hear)
Pop on screen is enabled
Vibration is toggled ON
Then back out fully and restart your phone.
---
Other Things to Check
1. Notification Style
Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings
Tap Floating notifications and make sure it’s set to Bubbles or Smart pop-up view
2. Notification Permissions
Go to Settings > Apps > Google Messages > Notifications
Make sure “Allow notifications” is ON
Tap Notification categories and ensure all toggles are enabled
3. DND (Do Not Disturb)
Check Settings > Modes and Routines
Look for any sleep, focus, or driving mode that might be muting messages
If enabled, turn off “Don’t disturb” or remove Messages from silenced apps
4. Samsung Watch sync issue
Open Galaxy Wearable app > Notifications
Ensure Messages is enabled
If still broken, clear cache for the Wearable app:
Settings > Apps > Galaxy Wearable > Storage > Clear Cache
---
Final Step: Reset App Preferences
If nothing else works:
Go to Settings > Apps > Tap three dots > Reset app preferences
This won’t delete data but will restore notification settings and permissions
Reboot phone
---
Summary
Your app is likely marked as "silent" due to a system-level glitch post-update. Fixing the alert level for Google Messages and turning off "Silent" under notification categories should resolve it.
Let me know if you want a step-by-step for doing this on your Samsung Watch too.

Galaxy S24Have you tried to uninstall and reapply the update?
Have you checked for Google Play System updates in Security and Privacy ?

Galaxy S24You said you cleared the app cache, did you clear the app data? Clearing the app data essentially resets the app. Note my comment above to tap the notification categories and make sure that "incoming messages" is turned on and is set for "alert" not "silent".
