After the OneUI 7 update, location services stays on consistently. Especially the below services constantly keeps requesting location

Tried, uninstalling and reinstalling Google Play Services. But once I turn on Location Accuracy, the Location request is back on consistently.

Update: The only thing that resolved this issue was a factory reset.

The location services is not what is draining your battery.  The beacon uses negligible battery resources.  No app accesses your location continually, but many apps do so frequently.  If you misplace your phone while you have location services off, you will not be able to use the find app, as find will not know where your phone is. The location usage was the same prior to the update, you just didn't see the icon.

After updating my phone to One UI 7, I noticed that the location icon remains active almost constantly, which is significantly affecting battery life.

When I tapped on the green location indicator, it showed recent access (0 minutes ago) by:

  • Google Play Services
  • Continuity Services
  • Phone Services

To troubleshoot, I:

  • Force stopped all three apps
  • Cleared their app data
  • Restarted the device

However, the issue persists. These services continue to access location frequently without any active user interaction. This appears to be a bug introduced in the One UI 7 update and is causing abnormal battery drain.

Kindly investigate and advise on a resolution.

Device Info (for reference):

  • Model: S24+ USA unlocked model / SM-S926U1
  • Software Version: One UI 7 / Android 15

Thank you.

I have this same issue with the location & I've noticed my battery tends to drop faster than normal. I checked here and reddit to see if it's not a one-off situation. Any news on when this will be fixed?

Are people still having location icon always on in the task bar? Is there going to be a fix for this? Is this a bug? I noticed it after beta6 but didnt go away in the official ui7.

The location beacon uses negligible battery.  Before the update, your location was constantly being accessed, you just didn't see it.  Every app for which you allowed location access will periodically access the location.  Those you allow to access the location even when the app is not in use, will do so regularly, but not continuously. Certain apps need to have the location access when not using the app.  Google, for one.  How do you think the find my device works without location access?  Google Maps is always accessing your location.  I repeat, just because you are now seeing the location icon all the time, does not mean it is behaving any differently than it has in the past.  IT DOES NOT USE ANY SIGNIFICANT BATTERY RESOURCES.
