Galaxy S24Why should resetting the watch have anything to do with your phone's notification tone? I don't see any relationship between the two. Did you check to make sure that somehow the sound did not get set as the default notification sound while you were setting it as the default ringtone? The only way it would be used for multiple apps is if it got set as the default tone. Why you would miss "so many things" is a mystery to me. When you hear a notification sound, do you not look to see what the notification is? Check your default notification sound setting - if it shows your new custom tone, change it to something else, then make sure that Google Messages Incoming Messages is set to the tone you want. If you don't have categories enabled, you will have to enable them.

Galaxy S24To set a specific tone in Google Messages tap on categories and then slide on incoming messages, tap it and select your alert type and sound for the messages. If you want to set a specific sound for a specific chat, you have to open the chat, tap the dot menu, select details, then notifications, then the notification settings will come up and you can chose the alert type and sound you want for that chat. Be aware, though, that the sound remains with that chat, not the contact, so if you delete the chat, you would have to set up the notification sound again. The default incoming message sound for the app will remain at what you set it, regardless how many chats you delete. If you are hearing impaired, you can also augment this by going into the accessibility settings, choosing advanced settings and selecting the flash notification category and choose the camera flash notification or the screen flash notification or both and then select the apps you would like this for.
