Hello all. I have a new issue involving my custom ringtone. All of a sudden, my phone is using said ringtone for multiple apps, instead of just Google messages. It might have to do with my having completely reset my Watch 6, very recently. That's when the issue seems to have started. I only want to use said ringtone for phone calls & the texts. Who knows how many articles I've read, to try to fix this. I work X2 retail jobs, & this is an issue for me; so I don't miss any communications that are important. Does anyone have any suggestions, as to what to do? I've tried so many things, it's not even funny! Thank you.

Just my thoughts but you mentioned it started when you reset the watch I would go thru settings on notifications

Why should resetting the watch have anything to do with your phone's notification tone? I don't see any relationship between the two. Did you check to make sure that somehow the sound did not get set as the default notification sound while you were setting it as the default ringtone?   The only way it would be used for multiple apps is if it got set as the default tone.  Why you would miss "so many things" is a mystery to me.  When you hear a notification sound, do you not look to see what the notification is? Check your default notification sound setting - if it shows your new custom tone, change it to something else, then make sure that Google Messages Incoming Messages is set to the tone you want. If you don't have categories enabled, you will have to enable them.

Thank you for the tips. I have my reasons as to why I have it set up this way. I do have catagories enabled, & have checked my default tone. Those are fine. I don't see any way to set a specific tone in Google messages; perhaps because of one UI 7. I get many notifications, work retail, & am hearing impaired, among other things. Make sense?

To set a specific tone in Google Messages tap on categories and then slide on incoming messages, tap it and select your alert type and sound for the messages.  If you want to set a specific sound for a specific chat, you have to open the chat, tap the dot menu, select details, then notifications, then the notification settings will come up and you can chose the alert type and sound you want for that chat.  Be aware, though, that the sound remains with that chat, not the contact, so if you delete the chat, you would have to set up the notification sound again.  The default incoming message sound for the app will remain at what you set it, regardless how many chats you delete.  If you are hearing impaired, you can also augment this by going into the accessibility settings, choosing advanced settings and selecting the flash notification category and choose  the camera flash notification or the screen flash notification or both and then select the apps you would like this for.

Thank you, Relaud! I forgot about that 2nd screen. All great ideas. I went into the screens, & the tone is set correctly. But, I should mention that only my watch sounds that wrong tone. My phone no longer gives any sound. So I also went to the same areas, on the watch, to try to fix the notifications. {I'm new to watches, sorry} All fine. So my watch is also set, with the right tone. Still, it gives me a default tone, called sky, while my phone is silent. I was wondering if that part was only temporary...I guess not. I like flash idea! I'm wondering if this is even fixable. I've checked everything I can possibly think of. Thank you for your help.

Let's find out why your phone isn't making any sound. Did you check the sound panel to make sure your notification sounds are not muted? I cant speak to custom ring tones on the watch, as my watch only has the stock sounds and I keep my watch muted anyway. I favor vibrations on the watch

Oh, I answered you in general, post is up at the top. Ok, I must have accidentally muted my phone. So that's fixed. I'll have to test it out

Hmm. Vibrations, I'll have to think about that. Setting a custom tone on the watch, it's a pain in the **s, I'll tell you that! Ok. Let me see...
