Suddenly my S24 Ultra ability to hear someone on a phone call stopped working 1 week ago.
I have tried restarting the phone, turned off Bluetooth, used compressed air on the speaker above the camera as well as to wipe any possible debris covering the speaker grille.
None have worked. I also did a reset of sound configurations. I did not do a factory reset as this is a last resort.
Safe mode was not successful in fixing it either.
There are a lot of users that have suddenly encountered this exact issue.
Samsung refuses to pay for this as it is 3 months out of the 12 month warranty.

Have you run a diagnostic to see if it's potentially a hardware issue? The option is under settings > device care.

I ran the diagnostic tests for in call and external speaker. The external speaker is working perfectly fine. The in-call is not.
This suddenly happened. I have not dropped the phone or liquid has not spilled on the phone.

That would indicate a possible hardware issue. I doubt a factory reset would solve anything, but you can try it. You may need to have the device looked at by an authorized repair center. Here's how to find one near you:

Exact same issue on my S24 Ultra from yesterday 10/1. The phone picks up speaker after rebooting but soon after during a call unable to switch between loud speaker vs in ear speaker. It then stuck in ear speaker. Can't play any audio from the speaker.

Samsung agreed to extend my warranty to fix it free of charge. But that would mean I will have to do a factory reset. That would involve of securely moving data out of my secure folder and transferring to my computer. I did a Samsung backup to their cloud. But like most have said, they doubt a factory reset will resolve this.

They want me to take it to UBreakIfixit to diagnose the issue. If there will be a charge then I can mail it to Samsung. Of course, that is not feasible unless I have a phone I can use. I have an old Samsung Galaxy S5 that I would have to bring into an ATT store to see if it can be used. From what I have read highly doubtful since it is a 3G phone and they are not usable any longer. So this is really a royal pain. I rarely use the handset ear speaker when I am on a call. Almost always, I use the speaker or my Bluetooth earbud.

I had the same problem and it was driving me nuts, I thought it was a hardware thing but that didn't make sense since my mic and speaker worked everywhere else except on calls. Finally, I found something that worked. I had Sound Assistant installed through Good Lock to customize how sound worked in each app, and that somehow messed up the speaker during calls. I disabled Sound Assistant in Good Lock and everything seems to be working fine now.
