One web site I upload photos does not get the gps location from the exif data that I guarantee 100% is in the photo(s) I take with my samsung galaxy s24 ultra. I have checked every possible security and location sharing and privacy setting for just about everything I can think of and have set everything to either yes or always or while using this app on the gallary, sumsung browser, chrome browser, just everythwere.

However! Depending on where I select the photo from it will send it.

Example I on on the web page and I click their upload button which brings up the choose an action to select my file. I can select camera or photos & videos. If I select photos and videos I see a list of recent files. If I select one from there it will upload the location gps exif data and works perfectly. I also have the option to browse files in other apps. If I select "Gallery" and select the exact same photo it will not send the gps exif location data which I know is there because I can go into my gallery like normal, select the picture, click the three dots and then details and I can see where the photo was taken and click on the little arrow to see it on the map.

As I said i have added my gallery (I guess it's the stock gallery app that came with my phone I did not add anything) to the location services, privacy and every other setting I can see that would associate the location sharing with the gallery app. This is getting pretty frustrating as I would like to select some older photos too and they easiest way for me to do that is to select them from my gallery.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks

It depends on which and what type of site you are uploading to. That data would normally be stripped for security reasons when uploading to a public site like FB or instagram, since most people forget that that data contains personal information (if it was taken at your house, a stalker could find you). If uploaded to a cloud server where you have storage space, the info stays.

It's just a public web set that is using a html input type="file" to select the file and calls a php page to do the actual uploading. Like I mentioned I don't believe it has anythign to do with the type of site I am sending to because whether or not it actually uploads the exif data with the picture depends on how I select the picture when I am prompted to select a file/pictured.

If I choose a picture from my recent files - it uploads all exif data including gps coords.

if I choose "Galler" then select a picture - it uploads the picture and strips the location/gps coords

So I don't believe this has anything to do with what site.

Thanks

No, now that data is automatically stripped for public websites, and sometimes for email attachments. It's a Samsung security measure, as many people a) do not even realize that metadata exists and, b) forget to strip it if they do. Too many people have found themselves being stalked or doxxed by strangers and vengeful exes accessing that information. Thats why when you choose it from the gallery, it gets stripped. Why would you want that information on a public site? If you want to identify the location, you can add a caption or description.

Wrong. First it is my web site. second it's not samsung place to block anything from me good or bad it's my responsibility not Samsung's. Striping it if I choose a picture from my gallery and not stiping it if I choose the same picture from the "recent files" makes absoloutley no sense. If They were so worried about my security and it is getting striped you would think no matter where or how I choose that photo it would not upload the location.

I don't know what you are trying to convince me of. Do you know where the setting is that I am missing?

Regardless whether it's "Samsung's place", they do it.  I think sometimes people are best protected from themselves.  Hey, if you want personal data out there, just add your address and email address to every upload you make.  It may be *your* personal website, but it's public.  Who needs to know that a picture was taken at 257 Sullivan St., Hackensack, NJ?

I'm not trying to convince you of anything.  Obviously, you are one of those people that believe what you believe and no one can change your mind.  There is no setting that you are missing.  It does not exist.  If you choose a photo directly from the Gallery, the metadata will be stripped.  If you download it to your phone or a computer, the metadata should stay. If you upload it from Google Photos, the metadata should stay.

This would have saved alot of time had you just responded with "There is no setting that you are missing.  It does not exist.  If you choose a photo directly from the Gallery,  the metadata will be stripped" first, instead of trying to show how much you know or like to type or whatever.

Oh, so sorry, I didn't think I had to spell it out for you, since you said yourself that it only happened with pictures you chose from the Gallery. I would have thought it would be obvious.  But, you insisted on arguing in your naked intent to prove me wrong.
