Since I updated to UI 7, the location icon has started showing in the top bar. I know phone services use it constantly, but before, it only appeared when an app used the location. Please fix this.

It's a new feature. The green indicator in the secondary status bar (after you pull down from the top) is to show you when apps are using location in the background. The apps for which you grant location permission have always pinged location when they needed it. Now you can more readily see when it's happening. If you tap the indicator, it will tell you what's using location at that moment. You can always review which apps have the permission under settings, location, app permissions. You can modify the permission as needed.

If you have a white location indicator constantly displaying in the primary status bar and want to get rid of it, install Good Lock + QuickStar. You can control visibility of indicator icons. Toggle off location.1750885852729.jpg1750886140071.jpg

This isn't true. I have a S23 ultra where the location is on all the time and also an A16 and that has no problem toggling the location on and off.

Since the update, my location icon is on all the time. And is i'm running my battery down quicker than it did before the update. Is there anything that can be done to prevent that other than turning off and on my location all the time? I do not like this part of the update.

With a new system update, it will take 7 to 10 days for it to learn your usage patterns.

It depends on what apps you have using your location to run in the background also the phone may take a while to relearn your usage patterns for the new update so your battery may take a hit for about a week or so. But basically no there is nothing that can be done.

Your location services has always been running with some system services constantly using it even on the previous OS, and on every device that's had location services turned on for any purpose since... well... phones started including GPS.

This is not new.

What's new is the display of it, so when you pull down from the top, you can click on it if it's green and see what apps are using it.

It's clearly informational as it's now letting you know what all is using it. It doesn't use any more of your battery than it's always used. You just didn't know about it before.

Of you know about Good Lock, you can install it, then install the Quickstar module. With that applet, you can pick the status bar icons you don't want showing.

Location is working all the time, draining my battery, and I'm not the only one; it's happening after recent software updates. Look at all the people complaining about it. This wasn't happening.

The location being on is not the culprit draining your battery. You locaton was always being accessed, now it's informing you the way the camera and mic informs you. You will not find location in your battery statistics because its use is so low as to not be measurable. If you want to turn the white status bar indicator off, you may do so. The green indicator on the secondary status bar cannot be turned off. At any given time, you can tap it and see what is accessing your location at that particular moment.

Also, go to the permission manager and see which apps have access to your location. They are the ones causing the location status to alert you that it is being used when they access the device's location.
