Galaxy S24Now Apple is a closed monopoly (how they skirt anti-trust laws I don't know), and they haven't changed much about their devices in the last 10 years, but they make all of the hardware and software, so it's hard to compare.
Same thing with the pixel. Google makes the hardware and the software, so it has an advantage there.
Samsung has to rebuild Android mostly because Google makes the stock software clunky and inelegant - and they have use Good Luck to squeeze the refinements Google will not allow them to fold into the base installations.
The updates also get delayed by the carriers as they make the changes they want, and they have to test that before pushing it out.
At least AT&T started pushing out some of its OneUI7 updates, but not all.
